ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Mrs. Proctor

FUN FACT

Did you see the new Matthew McConaughey movie that came out summer 2016, The Free State of Jones? Well, it's a true story about my Great Great Great Grandfather, Captain Newton Knight!!! It's a fascinating story of southern anti-slavery Confederate dissenters in Mississippi during the Civil War, and the fight for racial equality during Reconstruction.

Teaching and studying US History are my passions. I hold a B.A. with Special Honors in History and a Master of Education in Social Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. I participated in the UT History Honors program where I researched, wrote, and defended a senior thesis. In addition to writing a thesis, I worked directly with a UT history professor as an apprentice and spent many hours in archives conducting research. I then went into graduate school at UT where I completed a M.Ed in Social Studies Education. I am more than excited to return to Round Rock High and be a Dragon!

Books I read over the Summer

American Colussus: The Triumph of Capitalism 1865-1900, by HW Brands

Land of Promise: An Economic History of the United States, by Michael Lind

The Wages of Whiteness: Race and the Making of the American Working Class, by David R. Roediger

The Tipping Point, by Michael Gladwell

Civilizing the Machine: Technology and Republican Values in America 1776-1900 by John F. Kasson

The Rebel Girl: My First Life 1906-1926, an Autobiography by Elizabeth Gurley Flynn

FUN FACT

Meet my little dog, Dragon!  She doesn't breath fire, but she does fly (into pools).
